RESTORED! 30s ImHof Swiss Deco Oversize Alarm Clock Linz, Austria jeweler $325
RARE SWISS ART DECO 8-DAY ALARM CLOCK MANUFACTURED BY IMHOF. This visually compelling timepiece is from my personal collection of clocks curated since 1972. Commencing with apprenticeship to a European master clock and watchmaker through high school graduation, freshmen year of college and remainder of the 1970s, I sensitively restored clocks of all types; opening service and sales showrooms in the western suburbs of Chicago. Bold oversize black dial faintly signed Terrmeyr, Linz with luminous gilt-outlined numbers, gilt chapter ring with minute marks, luminous stick hands and alarm pointer. Thick crystal mounted in a heavy chrome bezel on black enameled ball feet. Movement cover stamped SWISS MADE 8 DAYS. Founded in 1924, Arthur Imhof SA was known for manufacture of elegant desk and table clocks. The company continued production of quality timekeepers through the early 1970s. This is the earliest ImHof alarm calibre I’ve encountered in 50 years. The movement seats on three posts extending from the dial plate and is traditionally secured with taper pins. Periodic servicing early in life is documented with multiple shop inscriptions commencing in 1938. The large inscription at top is dated June 1951. Time is wound and set at rear. Smaller key winds the alarm train, lifting the on/off push-button at top center. The clock presents attractively and is in fine running order. NOTE: I completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed the movement in waterless solutions, checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oil. Mainsprings were removed from barrels, cleaned and lubricated with grease. Hands, dial, crystal and the case were cleaned; plating polished to high luster. Meticulous restoration should provide reliable operation for years. Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details. I’m available to answer any and all questions / concerns. PS: French, German, Swiss and British Deco clocks depicted in the final photograph are destined for sale through Select and Superior.
